Cooking In Your Presto Electric Skillet
Here are some great dinner ideas that are fun and easy to accomplish with a Presto electric skillet:
Your favorite chicken recipe
Simply heat some oil in the electric skillet at 350 degrees, and add your chicken and brown it. Follow your recipe instructions to add remaining ingredients. Now turn the heat control knob down just until the pilot light goes off. Cover the skillet and let simmer, following your recipe guidelines for time.
Want fried chicken? Take some chicken and mix it with flour and desired spices (grab your favorite fried chicken recipe and adapt it). Heat some oil in your Presto electric skillet and set the temperature for 350 degrees. Cook dredged chicken in the oil for about 20 minutes or until a light golden color.
As always, turn the heat control down until the pilot light goes off. Cover and simmer for about 40 minutes, or until your thickest pieces of chicken are fork-tender. You can turn the chicken once or twice, to help with even cooking. Add water as necessary. Remove the skillet cover during the last few minutes of cooking to help crisp up the chicken. Enjoy!
Baked Potatoes
You may not have realized you can even cook baked potatoes in your Presto electric skillet! Preheat the skillet to 400 degrees. Prepare your potatoes and make sure to pierce them several times. Put them on a rack (to stop burning) that fits in your skillet. Or, you can use metal skewers. Cover the skillet and bake for one hour or until finished. So Easy!
Baking in your skillet
Many types of cake mixes can be prepared in your electric skillet. Make sure to line the bottom with a layer of aluminum foil. Always place the cover just slightly tiled and bake 45 minutes or until done. Put a plate over the skillet and invert it to easily remove the cake. Skillet temperature should be set at 275 degrees. If the top of your cake seems moist when done you can remove the cover and continue baking for another 5 minutes or so, to remove the moisture.
Important Tips For Your Presto Electric Skillet
- Always place your skillet on a level and dry surface. It should also be placed on a heat resistant counter or counter protector.
- When inserting the Control Master heat control, make sure it is inserted into the electrical pins on the skillet, and connect the cord to a polarized outlet only.
- When you adjust the heat control to the desired temperature, the skillet will preheat. Then the pilot light goes out when the desired temperature is attained. It is normal for the light to go on and off during cooking, as this indicates that the desired temperature is being maintained throughout.
- Due to the high-quality nonstick surface, most food can be prepared with little or no oil.
- When cooking is completed, turn the heat control to the OFF position. Then unplug the heat control from the wall outlet and then from the appliance. Always allow your skillet to cool before removing the grease tray.
